Fantail trapped in the house.

I caught a fantail that was trapped in my friends house, and I showed it to everyone.
It was in the kitchen, I opened a window, then it went in the dining room, it was trying to get out.
it banged its head on the window.
I was trying to let it out but I was also trying to catch it so I could let it out. Then I stopped trying to let it out and just started to try and catch it.
I caught it in the dining room after it had banged its head a couple of times. I asked my mum if I could take a picture and then I let it go outside. after i let it go it stayed near me.

  1. Hey Hunter,
That is an awesome thing you did, helping out that fantail. I really liked how well you described what went on before you managed to catch the fantail. I bet that fantail was glad when it got outside.

  2. Kia ora Hunter, oh I love your photo. The piwakawaka is my favourite native bird. I can only imagine how hard it would have been to catch it. I had a duck come into my house once and I had to get a towel and through it over its head. That seems to be the only way to calm birds down. I think the wee piwakawaka would have been very pleased that you helped it get outside. Did it sing you a song when you let it go outside and it stayed near you? Elizabeth K

  3. Hunter you have given such a great recount of the piwakawaka incident. I have a birdhouse that we put birdseed in and try to attract the birds to the garden. I enjoy sitting and watching them mucking about in my garden but if I go outside they all disappear over the fence. Thanks for sharing your account.

  4. Kia ora Hunter, I loved how animated you were telling me this story yesterday, you have done a great job of writing about it. I often see fantails when I walk my dogs in the forest, they like to follow us. They really are quite cheeky little birds!
Why do you think the fantail stayed near you when you let it go?

  5. Hi Hunter, this is the best piece of writing you have done in the year and a half that I have been teaching you. Saving the fantail really shows what a caring, lovely fella you are. What a great smile!! Keep it up mate.

  6. Hi Hunter, I love your writing about the fantail. Im so pleased you were able to catch it and release it. It must be very frightening for a bird to be stuck in a house and they can hurt themselves. You did such a great job of your writing too. I'm looking forward to reading more of your adventures.

  7. Hi Hunter, I love fantails and I have caught a bird once at school. It was behind the chairs, i went over and caught it, and then let it free. Maybe next time you could maybe talk more about it. Have you ever had a pet? from Bridie.
